These chocolates are made by Lindt & Sprüngli, a Swiss confectionery company that has been making fine chocolates since 1845. It all began in a small pastry shop in Zurich, where confectioner David Sprüngli-Schwarz and his son followed a new fashion emerging from Italy to provide chocolate in solid bars. Up until then, chocolate was known only as a drink. Within two years, the chocolates were popular enough to prompt a move from the little bakery to a factory. In 1899 Sprüngli’s son teamed up with the innovative Rodolphe Lindt to create the company we know today.

Among the many melt-in-the-mouth products made by Lindt & Sprüngli are the Lindor Truffles. My family loves these truffles! They are perfect and I order them again and again for my friends, family and acquaintances. The price per chocolate is also exceptional, especially for European chocolate, and the display packaging can be easily recycled, which is not always the case with gift chocolates. In these environmentally aware times this is an important consideration for many.

The blue Lindor is their delicious dark chocolate one, decadently rich with a hard chocolate shell enclosing a sweet and rich ganache. If you are not so keen on dark chocolate, I would recommend trying the milk chocolate truffles (in the red wrappers). There are other varieties too, including mint flavored, raspberry flavored and also for real dark chocolate lovers, a 60% extra dark chocolate variety.

There are few chocolates as luscious and satisfying as the Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles, and as my husband loves them, I go completely overboard for special occasions and order him the 120-count box. Letting these dark chocolate truffles melt slowly in your mouth is a truly sensational experience. A recent History Channel special on the making of chocolate showed the very high quality of Lindt’s processing. This traditional, illustrious company richly deserves its enduring reputation.
